Carolyn Joan Meyer

October 4, 1940 - March 10, 2025

Joan passed away peacefully at the age of 84, surrounded by family in Tucson, Arizona.

Born in Ames, Iowa, to George Wendell and Avonne Luella (Olson) Turner. Joan, her brother Jim and their family lived in a number of Midwestern towns. Farming and family farms were an important part of her childhood, and Joan’s father was later known for raising and showing Charolais cattle. After graduating high school, she moved to Denver, Colorado, to attend Colorado Women’s College, where she met her husband of 30 years. After starting their family in Colorado, a career transition in the mid-1960s brought their family to Tucson, Arizona, where Joan resided until her passing. Joan was a devoted mother who always prioritized family. In 2009, she lovingly became a caregiver to her granddaughters, Sunshine and Katie, and alongside her son James they raised the girls into adulthood. When Sunshine and Katie set out on their own, James remained in the home to care for Joan during her final years with unending compassion and dedication to his mother. Joan’s love and commitment to her family remained unwavering throughout her life. Joan participated in Cub and Boy Scouts with her sons, supported new mothers through Le Leche League Arizona, and volunteered at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She loved attending Sunday church service and Bible study during the week. Joan greatly valued the relationships she had with many friends, especially her close friends “The WITTY” group. Joan always showed love and grace to those closest to her, was steadfast in her faith, and above all she loved the Lord.

Survived by sons William (Janice), Marc (Kelly), Edward (Amy) and James. Grandchildren Sunshine (Daniel), Alec, Katie (Tylor), Madison (Sebastian), Madeline, Jacob and Jamie. Great grandchildren Kai and Poppy.

Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 3rd at 10:00 am at St. Paul United Methodist Church - 8051 E. Broadway Blvd, Tucson, AZ
