Hillary Arthur Howell, Jr.

Hillary A. Howell, Jr. passed into the loving arms of the Lord on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the age of eighty-four in Tucson, AZ. Born on December 7, 1940, Hillary was a beloved husband, father & brother who had a generous, giving spirit. 

As the son of Rev. Hillary A. Howell, Sr. and Emma Howell, he was born in Terre Haute, Indiana and lived in many locations during his youth with his two younger brothers, Paul and David. Finally settled in Tucson, Hillary graduated from Flowing Wells High School in 1958. He went on to work for Tucson Medical Center, Coronado Baptist Church and Amphitheater Public School District for nearly 35 years at LW Cross Middle School and La Cima Middle School. 

He married Ruth Howell in 1964, whom he celebrated his 60th Wedding Anniversary with in September 2024. He was a dedicated father to two children and one granddaughter. 

He was a member of Tucson Baptist Temple (Tucson Baptist Church) and later Casas Adobes Baptist Church for many years. He was a very sociable person and loved to strike up a conversation with anyone, which led him to become an avid CB/Ham Radio operator. He loved to travel and take road trips with his wife and family. After retirement, he developed an affinity for model building with his favorites being antique cars, ships & historical buildings. Hillary’s kindness and curiosity in life will be sorely missed.

Hillary was preceded in death by his parents and his brother David Howell. He is survived by his wife Ruth Howell, their two children Kristine (Robert) Russell, and Jeffrey Howell, granddaughter Jessica Russell, brother Paul (Charlene) Howell, sister-in-law Geneva (David) Haddix, brother-in-law Rev. James (Michele) Williams and his many nieces & nephews; Robert (Diane) Haddix, Michelle (Brian) Westerhout, Andy (Lisa) Howell, and Heather (Karl) Ashby.
