Christine Grant Scharf

On June 5th, Christine G. Scharf passed away from natural causes at the age of 98. Born in Chicago on June 28, 1925, she was a gifted and loving mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. As a lifelong nurse she cared for everyone she met. She trained in nursing at Cook County hospital in Chicago, graduating in 1947. Chris as she was called worked in every capacity in a hospital setting. As a proud alumna she possessed a bachelor in nursing and three master degrees in science, art and anthropology from the University of Arizona. During the next 20 plus years, she worked as a public health inspector, school nurse at Van Buskirk elementary and Wakefield junior high while her kids were in school. She was a student health coordinator at Pima College from the college’s inception in a hanger at the Tucson airport. While working for Pima College, Chris started the Partially Invalid Limited Mobility (PILM) club. She retired in 1985 to help her elderly mother. She is predeceased by her husband Karl and her daughter Patricia; Scottish immigrant parents William and Caroline Fraser and her sister Lilias. Chris is survived by her sons Rick (Kristy) and Bill (Judy); grandchildren Derik and Carrie; and great grandson Cameron. She enjoyed traveling having been to Scotland, England, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand and much of the United States including driving to Alaska in her VW van. She also enjoyed quilting, reading and puzzles. The world is a sadder place without the kindness Chris Scharf brought everyone she met. Per her request, there will not be any services.
