Alice B. Smith

Alice B. Smith entered into eternal rest on September 14, 2024. Born on February 1, 1930, in Reading, PA, she was the beloved daughter of Matilda (Roberts) Battle and Wesley Clinton Battle Jr.

Alice lived a life marked by faith and kindness, touching the hearts of everyone she met. A devoted sister and aunt, she cherished her nieces and nephews, and her reverence for God and family was evident in every aspect of her life. Known for her warm heart, infectious laughter, wisdom, and countless cherished memories, Alice leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and strength that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving sister, Sarah Battle of Tucson, AZ. Alice was preceded in death by her sisters, Doris McClain, Evelyn Harris, and Bessie Rawlings, as well as her brother, James “Sonny” Battle.

She is also lovingly remembered by her host of nieces and nephews, as well as her grandnieces, grandnephews, and great-grandnieces and nephews.

A proud alumna of Cheyney State University, Alice earned her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics and later obtained a master’s degree in the same field from Temple University. Her passion for education led her to a distinguished career, culminating in her role as Assistant Director of the Home Economics Division for the Philadelphia School District.

Beyond her professional life, Alice was an avid traveler, exploring the world, embracing diverse cultures, and creating treasured memories. After retiring from the Philadelphia School District in 1982, she moved to Arizona in 1986, where she spent her remaining years surrounded by family and the natural beauty of the desert.

Alice’s vibrant spirit, guidance, nurturing heart, and steadfast faith will be deeply missed. Her enduring devotion to family and dedication to education will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.

A celebration of Alice’s life will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Swan Burial & Cremation, 1335 S. Swan Road, Tucson, AZ 85711. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m.

Rest in His arms, dear sister and aunt. Your love and spirit will continue to shine brightly in our lives.
